SANDY SHORE
If you’re looking for a high-quality, quiet and effective, electric random orbital sander then the DEROS 5650CV could be the device for you.
Unlike the Finnish company’s CEROS unit, the new one doesn’t require a remote transformer. It plugs straight into the mains. I used it extensively over the recent Bank Holiday weekend and particularly on one often tough annual job, of sanding down a large wooden table in our garden.
I was going to do the task anyway, so thought I try the DEROS out on it. I usually end up with ears ringing and covered with dust, plus what amounts to the same feeling in right forearm that motorcyclists describes as ‘arm pump’.
The first thing I noticed was the quietness (just 71dB) and the lightweight (just 1kg) and its low-profile design enabled excellent grip and close to the surface sanding. According to the blurb, Mirka’s Abranet abrasive discs, which feel like a net curtain gone crisp (!) help keep the dust down. Worked for me.
As standard the DEROS 5650CV is supplied with two interchangeable backing pads allowing simple swaps between 125mm and 150mm and its patented brushless motor and 350w power consumption features an integrated electronic motor brake and speed control lever. Mirka claims that thanks to the unique design of the more it compares to a standard type delivering 500w.
The DEROS 5650CV costs £395 inc VAT and a range of accessories including dust extractor and professional carrying case are also available. Visit www.mirka.com ENDS.
