OSRAM GO GREEN
Original equipment (OE) manufacturer and renowned lighting specialist, OSRAM, has revealed its push on sustainable packaging and has now begun to replace the packaging for its entire retrofit bulb portfolio in the automotive lighting sector with eco-friendly alternatives.
As the worldwide market leader in automotive lighting, OSRAM attaches great importance to sustainability and is therefore continuously working on being environmentally friendly.
The company’s goal is to have carbon neutrality of its own operations by 2030 and is applying the strategy principle “avoid, reduce, compensate” to its reduction path.
OSRAM is already contributing to a significant reduction in its ecological footprint through continual technological product development. The latest examples are the extremely durable ULTRA LIFE halogen bulbs with longer lifetimes and the development of on-road and off-road retrofit LED bulbs that require 60 per cent less energy than conventional halogen bulbs and have a longer service life.
The company is now taking the next important step towards even greater sustainability by changing to 100 per cent plastic-free and fully recyclable packaging made from recycled materials for all its automotive bulbs.
The new packs are as durable and robust as their predecessors. Although the products are no longer visible in the box, they are shown full size on the packaging, which means they are easily identifiable to customers. The new packaging will be phased in, in a running change according to stock availability.
OSRAM’s Lighting Marketing Manager, Terri Clark, commented: “We all know how important our carbon footprint is and as a company as large as OSRAM, we know we have a responsibility to the planet to become more sustainable and eco-friendly. It was this that really spurred our decision on the new packaging, not only does it give our products a more elevated look, but it’s more sustainable, so it’s a win-win for everyone. While this will not be an immediate change, as old stock filters out and is replaced with new stock, we expect our sustainable packaging will be filling shelves by next year and our old packaging will be a part of our long history.”
