Leading lighting specialist, OSRAM, is encouraging kit and classic car drivers to look at its LEDriving HL Vintage bulb range to increase their vehicle’s headlight output, without compromising the classic look.

OSRAM has been in the automotive sector for more than 110 years, meaning the company has been operating throughout generations of classic cars. This gives the lighting giant a unique and helpful perspective of today’s classics.

Many see classic cars as works of art, so altering them in any way can be tricky, as many want to ensure their authenticity is kept. However, with OSRAM’s Vintage LED bulbs, classic car drivers can keep the look of a vintage bulb, but have the benefit of more light output.

The retrofit bulbs offer warm white light of 2700 K with up to 300% more brightness, which combines the advantages of LED technology with a vintage design.

Featuring the latest LED technology and a compact design, OSRAM’s Vintage LED bulbs guarantee high compatibility and easy installation in vehicles equipped with corresponding halogen bulb types. Drivers will benefit from LED technology without having concerns about elevated temperatures, harmful UV emissions, or compromising the aesthetic integrity of their classic automobiles. At the same time, these retrofit LEDs have reduced power consumption and significantly extended lifespans when compared to conventional halogen bulbs.

The OSRAM LEDriving HL Vintage range is available for H1, R2/H4/H19 and H7/H18 ECE bulb types.

The MOT inspection manual states: “Existing halogen headlamp units on vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986 must not be converted to be used with high-intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp for the light source and lamp not compatible.”

Therefore, pre-April 1986 vehicles are not subject to these restrictions, and subsequently, drivers can fit LEDs to their classic cars if they so wish.
