SEVEN SELLING WELL. VERY WELL.
Caterham Cars, who celebrate 60-years of the Seven this year, has started 2017 the way they left off in 2016 and is currently holding 600 firm orders on their books. The manufacturer expects to build 540 Sevens in 2017 and 575 in 2018, which would put them on the limit of their production capacity at the factory in Dartford (Crayford actually but don’t tell anyone!).
CEO Graham Macdonald has returned to the original ‘one-man-one-car’ build method rather than the production line introduced by previous boss, Ansar Ali. Macdonald is not just boss of Caterham either as he is a real fan of the Seven. He bought a 620R with his own money and has recently been building an Academy car from a kit with the intention of racing it this season.
Caterham’s last half year figures saw them turnover Caterham’s last half year figures saw them turnover £30M returning a profit of £300,000. Clearly and reassuringly there’s still plenty of life left in the iconic Seven yet then.
