CATERHAM IS CALIFORNIA DREAMING
Caterham Cars is crossing the pond to one of the USA’s most famous race circuits, Laguna Seca, for the inaugural Caterham Challenge Cup (CCC), over the weekend of December 1 & 2, 2018.
New to Caterham this year, the one-off race weekend is being billed as the ultimate climax to the Caterham Motorsport racing calendar and is the first manufacturer to offer drivers from a club championship in the UK the chance to compete in an exclusive event on American soil.
Olympic cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy has become the first competitor to sign up for the trip and will be one of around thirty drivers participating in this once in a lifetime opportunity.
The four-day event package available to club racers includes two days of exclusive open pitlane testing on the Thursday and Friday before four races over the weekend.
Built in 1957, the lucky racing drivers will race on the eleven-turn, 2.2-mile world-class circuit. The Californian track has hosted numerous two and four-wheel racing events including American Le Mans Series, Superbike World Championship and MotoGP.
While the track is a favourite of racers and fans worldwide, it’s the well-known ‘Corkscrew’ section of the track which will have Caterham drivers chomping at the bit as they get ready to descend an eye-watering 59ft – the equivalent of a 5½ storey drop – in just 450ft.
“When the race was announced I signed up instantly,” said Sir Chris Hoy. “What an adventure it will be and what a way to finish off the 2018 racing calendar.”
Simon Lambert, Caterham Motorsport Director, added: “If we were to put a sporting analogy to the Caterham Challenge Cup, this is our World Cup Final for Caterham Motorsport. It will be the pinnacle, the climax to our racing season. It’s a huge deal to us and we want it to be for our drivers, too.
“The only thing I’m disappointed about is we have to wait to December to take part.”
