IF THIS IS A CONTINUMOD THEN I LIKE IT!
Continumod™ (noun): A blueprint-accurate, period-sympathetic vehicle built new -no donor car, just an authentic continuation with approved chassis numbers from the original manufacturer. Combining the timeless spirit of classic cars with modern engineering, design, and advanced manufacturing, a Continumod™ redefines heritage with cutting-edge innovation.
Boreham Motorworks confirm the return of an icon. Fifty years on from the final limited edition, high-performance variant of the Ford Escort Mk1 RS-lineage, the Mk1 RS2000. Boreham Motorworks has announced that applications are now being accepted for one of a limited run of 150 cars worldwide with continuation chassis numbers.
As an official brand license partner of the Ford Motor Company, Boreham Motorworks is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the legacy of some of Ford’s most iconic vehicles. This is the ultimate evolution of the Mk1 and its RS lineage, a machine crafted for driving enthusiasts. The Escort Rallye Sport line developed a reputation for exceptional performance and handling, setting a new benchmark for what it means to drive a high-performance car.
With each new RS variant, Ford refined the formula, pushing the boundaries of what could be achieved on road, track and rally stage. Boreham Motorworks proudly honours this legacy, blending modern advancements with the raw driving experience that made the RS Escorts performance icons.
Taking that DNA and infusing it with modern technology, state-art materials and bespoke engineering, Boreham Motorworks proudly introduces a groundbreaking new segment – the Continumod™. Unlike traditional resto-mods, a Continumod™ requires no donor vehicle. It is forged from an official brand agreement with Ford Motor Company and built from the ground up using modern materials and advanced manufacturing techniques.
A Performance Benchmark from Past to Present
Customers can select from two engine options, each embodying the spirit of the Ford RS legacy while delivering modern performance. The first engine option, available as standard, is the iconic Twin Cam, which has been increased to 1845cc. Featuring fuel injection delivering 185PS, this engine is paired with a four-speed manual Ford Bullet synchromesh straight-cut transmission, it pays perfect tribute to the Boreham-built Escort Mk1 Twin Cam, combining its storied history with precise, responsive performance for today’s roads.
For those seeking the option of something engineered as a modern-day interpretation of classic Ford motorsport DNA, an all-new motorsport-derived four-cylinder high-revving Ford engine is available. This road-tuned 2.1-litre cast and billet engine weighing in at under 85kg features a double overhead camshaft and chain cam drive and produces 10,000rpm and 300bhp. The exhaust system is made from titanium.
Preserving the authentic, analogue driving experience of the original high-performance Escorts, the new RS features an all-new lightweight, aluminium and titanium fully floating rear axle, offering predictable handling and a direct connection to the Escort’s motorsport heritage. This is paired with an advanced limited-slip ATB differential and coil-over dampers to enhance balance and stability, engineered for exceptional control under power.
Wayne Burgess, design director said: “From the very beginning, our goal was to honour the simplicity and purity of the original design; while ensuring it met the expectations of a modern performance car. Every detail, from the minimalism of the exterior to the thoughtful functionality inside, is about distilling the essence of what made the Mk1 so special. It’s about creating a car that not only looks back at its heritage but also drives forward into a new era of Peak Analogue® performance.”
Limited to 150 cars, pricing starts from £295,000. A two-year 20,000-mile warranty will also ensure customers get out and drive with confidence. The public and press will get their first chance to see the car in the summer of 2025, ahead of production starting in Q3, the same year.
Iain Muir, CEO of Boreham Motorworks commented, “Recreating the Ford Escort Mk1 RS for a new generation is not just about building a car; it’s about honouring a legacy that has inspired driving enthusiasts for over half a century.
“At Boreham Motorworks, we’ve committed ourselves to not only staying true to the essence of the original, but also to bringing it into the modern age with cutting-edge engineering, precision design, and unparalleled craftsmanship. Our team has worked tirelessly to ensure that every aspect of this car, from its dynamics to its structure, is meticulously engineered to deliver the purest driving experience possible.
“This is an embodiment of what Boreham stands for – a seamless blend of heritage and innovation. We’re proud to bring the Escort Mk1 RS back to life and thrilled for the driving enthusiasts who will experience its iconic performance. We look forward to showing the car to the public and Ford enthusiasts alike in the summer.”
