I’ve always been an admirer of the AGM WLR, which has always struck me as a pretty cool kitcar, which also has more than adequate performance potential from a variety of engines.

It’s been away from the scene for a while, after its creator, Alan Whitehead, sold the project. The buyer didn’t do very much with it, until recently when he sold it to a new company, who have big plans for it.

Trading under the old AGM Sportscars banner, Stuart Bruce-Jones and Jonathan Twynham are the men behind the ‘new’ WLR and are based in Leicestershire. A re-designed spaceframe chassis is being worked on and will accept Jaguar engines (base model on the 2.5-litre V6, mid-range on the 3-litre V6 and 2.7-litre TDV6 diesel, while the rangetopper will be using the 4.2-litre supercharged V8). They are also looking at supercharging the 3-litre V6.

The aim will be to use as much of the Jaguar donor as possible as this could bring the kitcar novelty of traction control, ABS and auto/manual gearbox.

While all this is going on, Stuart’s own WLR will act as demonstrator. Jonathan runs a fabrication operation in Market Harborough and will be handling production of the chassis and other metal parts in-house.

Exciting times then for a car that deserves to fulfill its potential.
