Lots of engine builders, particularly those in the USA, like to use diesel motor oil as a break-in lubricant for new engines because it contains plenty of zinc (ZDDP) to protect flat tappet camshafts.

It’s said that this oil is being replaced with a new formulation, API CK-4, that reduces levels of ZDDP, on the order of 800 parts per million (ppm). That’s not enough to prevent premature cam wear or even failure in engines with flat tappet camshafts.

DEI Heat Sheath Gold™ is manufactured from high-temperature resistant metalised polyamide lamination, bonded to a robust 20oz heat treated glass fibre base material.

The product will protect and keep components cool in the most demanding applications and is capable of reflecting direct heat up to 800˚F (approx. 427˚C) and radiant heat up to 1100˚F (approx. 593˚C). It can be easily cut and trimmed to size as required.

J15 RE-JOINS VECTIS ON SYLVA PRICELIST

Sylva J15 back in production

After virtually ceasing production of their Ford-based J15 model, Sylva Sportscars has re-introduced it, due primarily to public demand, after it had been superseded by the MG TF-based Vectis , with which it shares its shape.

Sylva boss, David MacBean told me: “I always wanted the option of a Ford-based car and while the TF-based Vectis is cost-effective there is a definitely a market for the Ford-based J15 that we couldn’t service without that car.”

David will balance production of the two models by producing them in small batches to ease manufacture issues for a small company.  I More >
