DIMINUTIVE DELIGHT RETURNS

Back in 1991, famed designer, Peter Stevens, created the Barchetta 595, a deliciously beautiful take on a Fiat 500 with the roof cut-off, a proper ‘speedster’ style device. It was sold via the Dove Motor Company and about 10 were produced.

Although un-doubtedly a beautiful thing, at 24K the price was a bit steep. We are talking 25-years ago, after all.

Since them several takes on the theme have appeared but the original went to ground thought lost. Well, thanks to a Shropshire-based company run by Mark Hill, that’s about to change as it’s about to make a comeback.

A THING OF SHEER BEAUTY

Caterham  Cars has built a variant of its iconic Seven that was seemingly planned in the mid-1960s but never launched – the Caterham Seven Sprint.

As though dug up in a time capsule, the retro detailing of the Caterham Seven Sprint will delight Seven purists and provides the perfect scene-setter to the brand’s ‘60 years of the Seven’ anniversary, which will be celebrated next year.

The Sprint, priced from £27,995, is finally available to order after the car was launched at the Goodwood Revival, a fittingly retro setting for a car with one wheel firmly planted in the sixties.

NOPE, NO STUD JOKES!

Laser’s new Wheel Stud Thread Restorer Master Kit (part no: 6527) is designed to correctly align and restore both external and internal damaged wheel stud threads. The new master kit brings together two existing sets (5216 is for external stud threads and 6116 for restoring the internal threads on the hub), and thus offers a complete solution.

For external threads on wheel studs and bolts, the split die design allows the two halves of the thread restorer to be fitted to the good thread (normally at the base of the stud). Then the 24mm hex adaptor is fitted over the two More >

I LOVE A BIT OF HARD ROCK

FOLIATEC®.com is due to launch Hard Rock Liner at Automechhanikla in Frankfurt and it’s quite a product to say the least.

It was developed as a removable pick-up bed treatment that could protect the underlying paintwork but be peeled-off when required; however, Foliatec has ideas far beyond the original purpose.

The special primer makes Hard Rock Liner removable. Apply it without the primer and it will stick like – well, a pick-up bed paint.

Hard Rock Liner can also be used to protect sills and under wheel arches, either permanently or, on show cars and concours classics, it can provide protection while you More >

UP, UP AND AWAY…

Need a bit more leg-room in your classic, kitcar? Want a clearer view of the instruments?

B-G Racing’s new eccentric steering wheel spacer raises the steering wheel away from the driver to improve comfort and/or provide a clear line of sight to the instrument panel.

The spacer has two 3×50.8mm PCD bolt patterns offset by 10mm for extra clearance. It will also move the steering wheel out an extra 15mm towards the driver to allow taller drivers to lower their seat for better positioning without over-extending their reach to the wheel.

B-G Steering Wheel Spacers are produced from aluminium with an elegant black anodised More >

HEAVY DUTY OX

Here’s an interesting proposed new kit. Meet the OX…

It’s the brainchild of Sir Torquil Norman of the Global Vehicle Trust who commissioned well-known designer Gordon Murray (he of McLaren F1 and iStream among much other illustrious stuff) to create a van that can be used in parts of the world where terrain makes access difficult.

GVT describes it as the ‘world’s first flat-pack van’ and although the word ‘kit’ isn’t mentioned the OX requires building (a 12-hour build is suggested) with a set of spanners and an Allen key.

A ladderframe chassis has extra rigidity via bonded-in wooden panels, while suspension is More >
