FANCY A PEEL P50 OR A TRIDENT?
Aug 4th
The Peel P50 celebrates its fiftieth anniversary this year and P50 Cars of Essex can sell you a kit version plus one for its sister Peel Trident model.
You can power your P50 with either a Honda-type E22 four-stroke motor up to 155cc (although 49cc or 125cc are recommended) or you can also use a high torque electric motor.
Petrol-powered 49cc starter kits cost £2065 with electric versions from £4200. Full kits for these two options cost £12,795.
The company has recently introduced a limited edition as-original DKW engine option (although this kit costs £14,585).
UPGRADED AND NOT JUST A NUMBERPLATE LIGHT!
Aug 4th
In my opinion, Gil Keane of Better Car Lighting is the man when it comes to car lighting and particularly upgrading same. He has been helping classic car and period kitcar owners improve their car’s lighting for many years.
He also releases a regular stream of new products. The latest is an upgrade for the ubiquitous L467 standard numberplate light, which did a job – albeit a dimmish one – for many years.
A newly beefed-up version from Better Car Lighting is the L467 Plus Four. At a glance, this looks like the old one but adds four useful additional functions.

HEAT RESISTANT DYNO STRAPS
Aug 4th
Protect critical tie-downs before serious damage occurs.
“It started with a frantic call from a local tuner, asking if we offered a protective heat sleeve for dynamometer tie-down straps,” said Mike Buca, DEI Product Manager.
“It seems this tuner nearly launched a car while on the dyno because the exhaust heat from the tailpipe actually burned through an already weakened area on the strap.”
Fortunately, DEI already had the right material for the job with its high-temperature-resistant aluminised material which can withstand 500°F (260°C) direct heat and 2000°F (1093°C) of radiant heat.
So, it was just a matter of machining it up into 5in-wide-by-36in-long More >
SPLENDID ISOLATION – THE IMPERIAL ROYALE

[title] SPLENDID ISOLATION – THE IMPERIAL ROYALE DOUBLE SIX
The Imperial Royale was a real bit of specialist car grandeur that took its influences from the vast neo-classics that were so popular in the USA in the eighties.
A chap called Terry Marshall was the man behind the Royale and worked at Callington Motors in, er, Callington, Cornwall. The company was known back in the day for the interesting work they got involved in so Marshall clearly learnt his trade well there.
NEW MEV EXOCET VARIANT ANNOUNCED
Jul 28th
The Mazda MX-5-based MEV Exocet is one of the UK’s top-selling kitcars and has been for several years. At Newark last weekend the Staunton, Gloucestershire company gave us a sneak peek of their new Exocet RX, which uses the mechanicals and crucially the Wankel rotary engine of the Mazda RX-8.
A brilliant concept the car is due for launch at the Classic Car show at the NEC in November although we’ll bring you more details when we are able to.
A GREAT CHANNEL
Jul 28th
I’ve been enthralled lately by a rather cool YouTube automotive channel called ‘Parrott Bros’ run by brothers, Rob and Dominic Parrott.
They have some very entertaining content centred around their Audi TTs and perhaps most notably for totalkitcar.com readers, a build of an MK RX-5, which I thoroughly recommend. The guys have a really laid-back yet professional presenting style and I think you’ll enjoy their videos. You’ll find plenty of tips, tricks and hacks.
Search for ‘Parrott Bros’ on YouTube and don’t forget to subscribe and ding the little bell so that you’ll be notified every time they upload new content.

PUT A TOP ON IT
Jul 28th
Rob Hancock of Quantum Sportscars was at the Newark show last weekend and among the display of Xtremes, the company’s new hardtop was unveiled.
A very pleasing on the eye top it impressed many with its quality. For a start, this isn’t a surprise because Rob is one of the finest laminators that I know.
Orders are being taken now and costs are competitive – prices start at £795 for an un-trimmed hardtop, with £995 featuring an Alcantara headlining. Doors are an additional £425

Jul 28th
Keep tools and parts close to hand and within easy reach with this mobile service table (part number 8371), perfectly designed to be positioned over a vehicle engine bay, in a vehicle via the doors, or over the car boot.
The simple but robust design allows the tray to be moved up and down by a single support, with height adjustment from 515mm up to 1300mm (great for commercial vehicles), ensuring the tray can be positioned at the required height for easy access.
