NOTHING HALFWAY ABOUT THESE HALF ENGINES

In response to customer requests, Mini Spares is now offering a 998cc (1030cc) half engine in addition to its existing 1275cc (1380cc) version.

Both are supplied exclusively to Mini Spares by Bill Richards Racing using Mini Spares parts.

The 998 (1030cc) and 1275 (1380cc) variants are as fast and powerful as one would hope while maintaining drivability and a reasonable MPG figure.

Both half engines use the Evolution camshaft which has very low hydrocarbon emissions making it well within MoT requirements. They are supplied fully built using the parts shown.

However, it should be noted that a timing cover is not included and so will More >

COAST TO COAST

For more than 120 years, British company Castrol has been at the forefront of oil technology. Company founder Charles Wakefield launched his first vehicle engine oil in 1906, a pioneering blend of mineral and castor oils that offered unrivalled lubrication properties. Since then, and through many further innovations, Castrol oils have lubricated the beating heart of everything from speed records to Mars missions.

Interestingly, Castrol was the first company of its kind to promote its products through sponsorship, which swiftly led to advertising and merchandising. By 1946, when the iconic Castrol Classic branding was launched, Castrol offered a wide range of More >

CAN’T BEAT BOUNCY SPRINGS

High-lift camshafts for GM LS engines are more the norm than the exception these days. Cams rated around .600 to .625 inches of valve lift are all over the place.

You’ll need a good set of valve springs to run one of those cams. Summit Racing™ Pro LS High-Lift Valve Springs are an inexpensive way to extend the engine’s operating range by around 1000rpm, which is not to be sniffed at. The springs are a drop-in replacement for factory springs and come in sets of sixteen.

SUPER 3 SUPER COOL

This one isn’t a kitcar OBVIOUSLY but there’s going to be a lot of interest in this new Super 3 from Morgan, especially among specialist car enthusiasts.

I think the Super 3 is an outstanding thing and a suitable replacement for the previous model. Gone is the Harley-derived S&S Cycle V-Twin engine to be replaced by a three-cylinder Ford 1.5-litre Dragon (albeit with the turbocharger removed) engine producing 118bhp. If you have driven a Focus ST, then you’ll be familiar with this engine.

The S&S motor was originally around that power output, but emissions regulations meant that in later years it was More >

CORDLESS SOLDERING

New to the Laser Tools’ range is this rechargeable, cordless soldering iron (part number 8273) that features a battery charge level indicator and inbuilt LED, making it ideal for use in dimly lit areas such as engine bays and vehicle interiors.

The soldering iron is powered by an 1800mAh Li-ion battery providing usage time of approximately 1hr and reaches working temperature in approximately 15 seconds, with a range of 200° – 480°C. The supplied stand encloses the tip allowing for it to safely heat up and cool down. The battery is rechargeable through a USB socket on a PC or USB More >

THAT’S NOVEL

Harnessing novel construction and material technology derived from its race-winning motorsport programme, Falken’s all-new AZENIS FK520 UHP tyre for performance and SUV applications offers motorists greater stability and fuel efficiency.

Falken’s ‘flagship’ next-generation AZENIS FK520 will initially come in 81 sizes, ranging from 17in to 21in, with a Y speed rating (300km/h).

Structurally stronger thanks to race-derived Aramid, the AZENIS FK520 assures motorists of more precise steering behaviour, while a 10 per cent weight reduction in comparison with its predecessor, the FK510, means decreased unsprung mass and rolling resistance, improving fuel efficiency.

YB COOLING HELPER!

The Cosworth YB Engine has two thermostat/water housings that are comprised of an unusually complex rear section to house the thermostat and a front section that connects to the radiator bottom hose.

These castings can corrode and degrade over time, especially if the coolant has been neglected. Fortunately, Burton Power can supply replacements for both sections to bring the system back to prime condition.

The Front Section Connector (with plug) can be ordered as part number SC1074 at £38.50 inc VAT and the Rear Section Thermostat/Water Housing can be ordered as part number SC1073 at £60 inc VAT.

THIS MAKES SENSE

One of the bugbears of modern motoring is having the ‘Check Engine’ light come on, paying for a garage to check it out and finding that it’s not an engine fault, but the sensor ‘playing up’.

There are many reasons for a sensor giving a false warning or actually fail. Some can be prevented by fitting DEI’s new Thermal Sensor Covers.

DEI Thermal Sensor Covers will protect delicate sensors, plugs and wire connectors from heat, moisture and dirt. They are made from an aluminised insulation material that acts as a thermal barrier for sensitive wire connections and the sensors themselves.
