12 VOLT HEALTH CHECK

As a quick, easy, convenient and accurate method of checking vehicle battery health, Laser Tools have recently introduced their Battery Tester (part number 8206).

This is a compact unit that accurately tests battery health and cranking and charging voltages. With easy-to-understand instructions, engine start voltage can also be measured as well as charging (alternator) voltage. Accurate to +/-0.05V More >

CROSSFLOW 711M PISTONS

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This 0.060in oversized piston was originally designed for Ford Crossflow 711M engines with flat (non-chambered) heads (introduced in August 1970) and Fiesta 821M engines. This 1.3-litre piston can also be used as an upgraded part in 1.6-litre engines as the smaller chamber in the piston will raise compression to approximately 10.3:1.

LOCK UP YOUR MINI’S A-SERIES

Many Classic Mini – and Mini-based kitcar – owners will be planning an overhaul during the winter so the time is right to take a look at this handy tool.

Mini Spares has a Flywheel Locking Tool that bolts where the starter motor fits to secure the flywheel in place during the removal of the flywheel bolt/crank pulley etc on you’re A-Series engine.

An assistant to hold it in place is no longer a requirement!

The tool will prevent the flywheel from turning without causing any damage at all. It’s certainly a better solution than an old screwdriver jammed in place!

WINTER BEETLE-BASED KITCAR UPGRADE?

Winter’s almost here and by now many kitcars will be tucked up in their garages undergoing a seasonal refurb.

So, it’s a good time to advise Beetle-based kitcar owners (1300cc or 1500cc) about these new GAZ adjustable GT. They are fully adjustable and enable the damping bump and rebound rate to be adjusted to suit the conditions, load and driving style.

The adjustable damping rates can be altered by means of an easily accessible knob on the side of the units. GAZ can set these dampers up for general road use or for serious classic racing if that’s your preference.

Known for their prowess with a spray gun and well-regarded within classic Lotus circles, If their trimming is half as good as the paintjobs they’ve done that I’ve seen over the years. A recent Essex Wire liveried Tornado GT40 replica was a complete stunner complete with ‘invisible’ stripes!

FROM RUSSIA – TO SHOREHAM – WITH LOVE!

Sound deadening and heat-protective materials have become very popular with kitcar enthusiasts in recent years and for good reason.

Trust me, there are some complete rubbish products out there that don’t deaden sound and definitely don’t prevent heatsoak although by the same token there are some great ones available. Dynamat or anything from DEI anyone?

Another product that I have been hearing good things about lately hails from Russia and is called STP Bomb Aero made by a company called Standartplast. It’s available in the UK though from Heritage Parts Centre.

STP Bomb Aero uses bitumen-based technology using what is described as aero More >
