NOT A TKO – A TKX FROM TREMEC AND SUMMIT RACING
Dec 31st
American Powertrain’s Tremec manual transmissions have traditionally been OEM designs. Nothing wrong with that, they’re good boxes. But Tremec saw the need for a five-speed designed from the ground up for serious performance and better fit in classic muscle cars, kitcars, hot rods, and pickup trucks. Thus, the Tremec TKX was born.
The TKX is rated to handle up to 600 lbs.-ft. of torque and 8000 RPM. You can even bang gears at 7500 RPM and the TKX won’t miss a beat. The all-new aluminium case is a three-piece design (main case, intermediate plate and rear extension) that is strong and More >
NEW MAZDA MX-5-BASED KIT EVOKES FIFTIES
Dec 24th
Here’s an interesting new kit destined for launch in early 2021.
It’s another Mazda MX-5-based package called the Tipo 184 and although not a replica it is directly inspired by the fifties Grand Prix car, the Alfa Romeo Tipo 158 Alfetta. Indeed Giuseppe ‘Nino’ Farina won the first world championship Grand Prix in an Alfa Romeo 158 at Silverstone in 1950.
Former kitcar manufacturer and TV presenter, Ant Anstead recently built a 158 tribute for his TV show, ‘Master Mechanic’ and the car is directly inspired by that.
We’ll bring you more details when we have them as information is quite scarce at More >
SEAL IT WITH COCONUT!
Dec 24th
The lovely coconut smell of Adam’s Polishes Paint Sealant is a winner straight away. However, it’s very easy to apply by hand – or you can use a machine polisher – and it’s a polymer-based sealant that gives durability and an amazing level of gloss, although you can enhance further with say, paste wax and/or a topper if you wish.
I like Adam’s products for various reasons, one of which is because they work so well and are very flexible and versatile.
You might initially think this one is More >
I’VE TOLD YOU BEFORE … NO KNOB JOKES!
Dec 24th
Here’s yet another handy new product from Car Builder Solutions – it’s a little three-position rotary on/off/on switch (part number #ROSWSR2) that features three ¼in spade terminals, mounts to a 12mm hole and a maximum panel thickness of 8mm.
Excuse me for this one but the knob diameter is 23mm and looks like a bargain at £13.20 inc VAT. More information from www.carbuilder.com ENDS.
A SMALL SMIDGEON!
Dec 24th
Here’s a neat idea for coffee and kitcar enthusiasts – this new travel mug from Smidge is a fine thing and ideal for cars like ours that don’t often have the luxury of cup holders! Living dangerously you can try and wedge your coffee cup between your knees but that can be embarrassingly painful and basically uncomfortable.
Three different sizes of these Smidge leak-proof and insulated travel mugs are available – 236ml, 355ml and 473ml and they claim to keep your coffee hot for twelve hours or cold for an impressive 24!
The secret is a very strong lid sealer mechanism which More >
MY GARAGE WALL HAS A SPACE ON IT FOR THIS…
Dec 24th
When I saw this press release come in just before Christmas I knew I had to order one especially as I spent much of the Christmas holiday painting the garage floor and generally have a bit of a revamp in there.
This print comes from The Cars Collection Club along with several others in the series all with the message: ‘Everything Will Kill You: So Choose Something Fun’. The one I ordered shows a dramatic high-speed behind-the-wheel illustrated view of Indianapolis. I find it captivating.
The limited-edition measures 36in x 24in with other sizes available. You can also buy it pre-frames or More >
NOT JUST FOR AIRCRAFT!
Dec 24th
I really like the products made by American company Gold Eagle’s 303 brand. Their stuff comes in what looks like bathroom cleaner bottles but, don’t underestimate what’s inside.
Their Aerospace protectant is a class-leading product that as the name implies was developed for aerospace use. However, spray it on plastic trim and you’ll see a cool, satin finish to it. Plus, it is great at resisting ultra-violet rays. Indeed, it contains factor-40 suntan lotion and will protect surfaces for many months resisting dirt and dust while repelling moisture, too.
I also use it on my leather, which is a bit ‘off label’, More >
