DAVID ‘LAZO’ LAZENBY – TALES OF LOTUS, HAWKE RACING CARS AND PACE PRODUCTS

Here’s a little feature on a motorsport engineering personality from the sixties called David ‘Lazo’ Lazenby.
Like many of his peers, Lazenby had built Austin Seven-based Specials pre-war before he joined the RAF.
He joined Team Lotus in 1963, initially on the Elite production line and then joined the racing team under Jim Endruweit. He was Jim Clark’s chief mechanic when he won the Indy 500 in 1965.

Four-piston ‘Princess’ calipers were commonly fitted as an upgrade to many Fords – and therefore – thousands of kitcars used the M16 caliper as it conveniently had the same mounting bolt pattern. These Leyland calipers have become difficult to find as the Princess and Ambassador donor cars are rare beasts these days.
Burton Power is now able to offer a faithful reproduction of the ‘Princess’ caliper for those who prefer a period modification. The new calipers are now supplied with a spacer kit that allows them to be used with vented discs.
